Why should you consider Long Term teaching?
Many teachers prefer the stability provided by a long term assignment. You
will deal with all the challenges of 'real' teaching and enjoy all the rewards.
You will be able to follow through on planning and see the fruits of your
labours. By making a long term commitment you can become familiar with your
pupils' needs and abilities and develop professionally and personally satisfying
relationships with colleagues and parents as well as the children in your care.
Before
accepting a position, you must carefully consider your commitment and
availability. Long term Teachers will brief you thoroughly on each proposed
assignment before you make your decision, and when suggesting a post will always consider your
experience, present requirements and future commitments.
Teachers in long term
positions have the opportunity to take on full-time classroom responsibilities.
You can work in one particular school for a length of time and this will enable
you to become involved with 'whole school life'. Long term teachers must agree
to carry out such duties as planning, assessment, attending staff meetings and
parents' evenings, and liasing with educational specialists. You will be
expected to take part fully in the life of the school and respect the
school ethos.
You will need to be fully aware of the statutory requirements of
the National Curriculum and how it is incorporated into planning, assessment and
teaching. You will also be required to complete, where appropriate, written
reports for the children in your care.
